I'm trying to force myself to draw backgrounds more often since I need a lot of practice with them. I can never be bothered to colour them though...this sketch was lying on my desk for over a month.
The story behind the city is that it is cursed. Ooooo spooky. Anyways, anyone who enters the city looking for gold or treasure cannot leave. So even if they find hidden relics, they're cursed to live their entire life in the city. They slowly turn into gargoyles, and the more greedy they are, the more ugly their gargoyle self becomes. Fun, right?

I just watched spirited away.. Similar concept (the whole, if you're greedy, you be turnin' into a pig/eaten by noface) And that you can never leave O_O
